For the third consecutive year, SCC’s Toyota T-TEN Program has been named one of the top programs in the country by Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. The award recognizes the five highest performing programs in the nation.
“We win because we have the best dealers and mentor network
in the country,” said Matt Spitzer, SCC’s Toyota T-TEN instructor and coordinator. Spitzer said that the one-on-one positive support the dealers provide really inspires the students. “They are really starting careers, not just doing a job,” something he finds impressive for the students who range in age from 18 to 32.
The criteria for award consideration was stringent – 100 percent of graduation objectives met, placement at dealerships (80 percent of graduates still employed at a Toyota or Lexus dealership), compliance with all training requirements, and all certifications current.
Don Schultz, Interim Automotive Director and Industry Liaison said that our students are really fortunate to have one of the best Toyota instructors in the country. “I am really proud of his accomplishments,” said Schultz of Spitzer. “It’s instructors like Matt who make Shoreline one of the best in the country.”
Last year, Toyota Motor Sales hosted a party at Qwest Field for the college’s T-TEN students and graduates to show their appreciation for the excellent implementation of the national training model.
“I would like to commend each of these T-TEN schools for being a leader in workforce development initiatives within their communities. Throughout the country, Toyota and Lexus dealers are in need of qualified automotive service technicians. Thank you for helping us to achieve the goal of filling this need.”
