Students, faculty and staff at Shoreline Community College are holding food and clothing drives this month to help support our neighbors in Shoreline and across the Puget Sound.

Students in the DECA Program are holding a business clothing drive for the YWCA’s Dress for Success Program, February 23, 25 and 26.  They are specifically looking for large sized suits and work apparel such as contemporary, interview-appropriate skirts, blouses, blazers, jackets and pant suits.  Items can be dropped off at the PUB, the student union building at the main campus.  (DECA is an international association of college and high school students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship that supports skill development and competence for marketing careers.)

The Global Development Club is sponsoring a food drive for Northwest Harvest February 24-26.  Currently, Northwest Harvest needs oatmeal, whole grain pastas, brown rice, tomato products, canned peas, canned pears and peaches, canned tuna, canned chicken and turkey, shelf-stable milk and kid-friendly food.  Donated items can be dropped off at the second floor of the PUB.  (To read about the food drive, please check out the club web site at:  http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dcrsn7pp_93c9cznvcx.)  The club provides a platform for students to engage in discussions about global poverty.

Cosmetology students are joining Shoreline schools, churches, businesses and individuals helping the people who are residing at Tent City 3, located at Calvin Presbyterian Church (CPC) in Shoreline.  The students are giving the men and women free shampoos and haircuts.

Additionally, The Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers is sponsoring an employee food drive this Friday for the King County Labor Agency Food Bank in Seattle.  Biology instructor Leoned Gines is heading up the outreach project.  “We did this over the holidays and wanted to help out again.”

Shoreline Community College is located at 16101 Greenwood Avenue North, just west of Aurora Avenue and north of Seattle city limits.  For more information, call (206) 546-4101.
