Prerequisites: AP Test Scores

Students who have taken an Advanced Placement test may be able to use their score for Biology, Chemistry, English and Mathematics placement, as well as receive college credits. Students must provide an official copy of their AP test results from the College Board; please have your score sent to Enrollment & Financial Aid Services.

Biology

The prerequisite for Biology 211 is Chem 121. Although an AP score in Chemistry does not give the student credits for Chem 121, but rather for Chem 1XX, the Biology Department does provide students with placement into Biology 211 with a Chem AP score of 4 or 5. Please contact the Biology Department.

Chemistry

The Chemistry Department does not give college credit from AP exams, but does recognize AP mathematics and English to meet prerequisites. Please contact the Chemistry Department.

English

AP scores of 4 or higher will give students placement into English 101. This process is not automated so you must contact the English Department.

In addition you may receive credits in the Humanities distribution category as follows (from the college catalog):

AP Tests: LANGUAGE AND COMPOSITION and LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION

Scores of 4 or 5 result in 5 general Humanities credits. These credits may be counted toward Humanities distribution.

Mathematics

Placement will follow the math credits received:

Advanced Placement AB Exam

AP Test score of 5 results in the award of 10 credits equivalent to Math& 151* and 152.

AP Test scores of 3 or 4 results in the award of 5 credits equivalent to Math& 151.

Advanced Placement BC Exam

AP Test scores of 4 or 5 results in the award of 10 credits equivalent to Math& 151 and 152.

AP Test score of 3 results in the award of 5 credits equivalent to Math& 151.

Advanced Placement Statistics

AP Test scores of 3, 4 or 5 results in the award of 5 credits equivalent to Math& 146 or Math 211.

Once these credits enter Shoreline's database, you will be able to register for the higher level class. If you have a copy of your AP scores, but credits are not yet posted in the database, you can contact the Mathematics Department.
