Blackboard is not an email program so the only functionality it provides is the ability to send email to classroom participants from the Communications area. If students want to check their shoreline.edu email accounts, they need to open up a second web browser window and type in http://mail.shoreline.edu/.
You also could put an external link to the SCC email URL somewhere in your classroom by going to control panel, clicking on a content area (like Course Materials), click External Link, type in a name (i.e., My SCC Account), type in the URL (http:/mail.shoreline.edu/), select desired options, Submit.
Unfortunately, you cannot add an external link to the Communications area, which would be the logical place to have it. An alternative would be to add a button on your left-hand navigation bar that says “Check SCC E-mail Here”. To do this, go to control panel, click Manage Course Menu, click External Link, name the new button (Check SCC E-mail Here), type in the URL (http://mail.shoreline.edu/), select desired options, Submit.
