The Course Recycle allows instructors to select information to be deleted from a course and saves the rest of the course areas for future use. When we remove student accounts after each quarter, all of the student work is removed from your classroom shell except for submissions to the Digital Dropbox and Messages. Since you reuse your Blackboard "shell" classroom each quarter, you may want an easy way to remove old information before students from the upcoming quarter are put into your classroom.
You can remove old data of your shell classrooms (e.g., old announcements or old files in the digital dropbox) by using the Course Recycler. Just click Control Panel, Recycle Course, under #2 click on what you want to recycle, under #3 type in Remove, click Submit. Please note that if you use the Recycler for the Discussion Board, it will remove all of the forums and any left-over messages inside them. If you just want to remove the left-over messages and not the forums, then you will have to manually remove the messages.
An easy way to select all messages quickly is to get into the Discussion Board, click on the forum, make sure options are showing (or click "Show Options" on the right), click "Select All" on the horizontal menu bar, then remove. REMEMBER: Content and data removed via the Recycler cannot be recovered. So make sure to archive your course (Control Panel, Archive Course) prior to recycling in order to store a permanent record.
