Rotary Raises $13,000 for Veterans' Fund
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Lake Forest Park, Veterans in financial need at Shoreline Community College now have a lot more resources available to help.
At the chapter's Sneaker Ball, held March 1, 2014 at Inglewood Golf Club, attendees raised $13,000 in just seven minutes at the fundraising dinner and auction.
Event supports scholarship established in memory of former
Scooter the Beerguy and Rick the Peanutman Foundation joined Mariner fans at the end of the year season banquet at Henry's Tavern next to Safeco Field on September 26, 2013. Portions of the proceeds and donations at the event supported the SCC Foundation's Rick Kaminski Memorial Athletic Scholarship.
Rick Kaminski was SCC's Student Body President during 1973-1974. The scholarship was established in memory of Rick and his support of Seattle sports teams and offers financial support to SCC student athletes who also show strong leadership traits.
Outstanding Graduate at Western Washington University is an alumna of Shoreline
Rachel Ashby, Outstanding Graduate of the East Asian Studies Department,
One of Ashby's most rewarding experiences at Western was volunteering with the Asia University America Program, where she helped Japanese study abroad students learn English and discover American culture. Immediately after graduation, Ashby plans to go on a summer study abroad trip to Tokyo through the KCP International Japanese Language School. When she returns in the fall, Ashby hopes to earn a TESOL certificate and then return to Japan to work as an English teacher.
Ashby was home-schooled and attended Shoreline Community College before attending Western. She is the daughter of Marijane Sutton Ashby.
Congratulations to our Alumni Drawing Winner!
Members of the class of 2013 who attended SCC's forty-ninth commencement on June 9 were eligible to enter the 2013 Alumni Commencement Day Drawing for either a $50 Safeway gift card or $50 ARCO gas card. By completing a form with their contact information at the reception in the PUB following the ceremony, graduates received a mini graduation rubber duck and entry into the drawing.
Joe Swigart of Everett who graduated with an AAAS from the Honda PACT program of SCC was drawn as the winner and chose the ARCO gas card. Joel works at Lynnwood Honda.
