Bruce Amstutz

Recent Work in Clay
Art Faculty Member Bruce
Amstutz would rather have his hands in clay. Most of the pieces in this
show are from his studio in the woods on Lopez Island where he spends
his Summers. These vessel forms represent his interest in the character
of clay and its response to forming actions like throwing, cutting,
pressing and tearing. He strives to use very simple materials for glazes,
like wood ash and surface clay that he digs from beside his kiln.

Tracy Petre
Feb 5, 2009 - Mar 3, 2009
Life Observed
Tracy Petre's paintings
explore universal themes in our society through the use of symbolism,
archetypal imagery, and stereotyping. These topics examine daily life,
current events and social concerns that are interpreted through the use
of complex compositions, distorted imagery, and the layering of both
space and meaning.

Laura Ward
Mar 5, 2009 - Mar 31, 2009
Impressions
Associate faculty member
Laura Ward explores the ideas of house and home in her sculptures, and
questions the transformation of our memories over time. Through the
juxtaposition of appropriated elements and imagery from abandoned
spaces, Laura constructs visual works that promote a sense of nostalgia.
