The library division offers a variety of classes and workshops aimed at
improving students' information literacy. The phrase, "information literacy,"
refers to a set of skills related to one's ability to:
- Recognize that you need information to deal with or solve some issue;
- Find information that will be helpful to you in addressing your needs;
- Evaluate the quality of the information you find (is it current? is it
from a reputable source? is it bias-free?);
- And incorporate the newly-found information into your life.
The library offers
credit classes on research skills and
media manipulation (digital imaging, sound, and video), as well as
workshops designed to help you with specific tasks related to college-level
research assignments. Additionally, there is an
online tutorial
available that can help you with some of the finer points of research using the
tools available at the SCC library.
