Shoreline's music program is the right choice for talented singers graduating from high school or vocalists looking for performing experience and college credit courses. You will find a wide variety of vocal performance opportunities in Shoreline Community College's vocal program - from solo recital, opera and musical theater, to choral ensembles. No other community college in Washington State offers an opera workshop program featuring fully staged one-act operas and opera scenes each winter, as well as a fully staged musical each spring. Both operas and musicals are performed with orchestra.
At Shoreline there are two first-rate choirs é the Chamber Chorale, and the more selective Shoreline Singers. If you are interested in more popular or folk genres, Shoreline also offers non-traditional Blue Grass and Funkngroove ensembles. Additional performance opportunities are provided to private voice students who participate in performance classes, recitals, and master classes given throughout the year. Students also attend special forums given by faculty and special guests on subjects such as vocal health, preparing a resume, and pursuing a career in musical theater. At the end of each quarter, students perform juries exactly as they would in four-year music programs. These juries are an exciting occasion for students to showcase their progress before faculty and fellow students.
We offer a challenging, yet nurturing environment, providing you with the skills and confidence necessary to survive in an increasingly competitive musical world of auditions and performance opportunities. Our program will help you to put your best foot (and voice) forward every time. Our superbly qualified voice faculty, vocal coaches, and collaborative pianists have extensive performing experience with both musical theater and opera repertoire. The training you receive at Shoreline will give you a broad and versatile background, preparing you for more advanced studies when you graduate.
Shoreline is less expensive than a four-year college or conservatory, and most credits are transferable. Class sizes are small and rarely exceed twenty students. By keeping student-to-faculty ratios low, our students receive more individualized training and assistance plotting their career course.
