The virtual college initiative at Shoreline Community College is moving forward with a director-appointment announcement and communications campaigns due go public in the coming days.
The virtual college effort has been led by a series of task forces and work teams since its announcement by President Lee Lambert in the fall of 2010. Earlier this year, the founding Virtual College Leadership Team recommended to Lambert that the initiative would benefit from having one identified leader.
After receiving input, Lambert decided that the position would be at the director level and report to Vice President for Administrative Services Daryl Campbell for the coming year. Campbell was then asked to implement an accelerated on-campus recruiting process.
“The application and review processes are complete, a candidate selected and offer made,” Campbell said Friday, July 13, 2012, adding that he expects to have a final announcement sometime next week. “The virtual college is an important initiative for Shoreline.”
Campbell said seven individuals were approached to submit letters of interest, including four faculty members, two administrative exempt employees and one dean.
On the communications front, the virtual college is now on the web and the promotional campaign about to start, said Jim Hills, special assistant to the president for communications and marketing.
“The virtual college has its own address at http://www.shorelinevirtualcollege.org/, although those pages are part of our main Shoreline Community College website,” Hills said. “It is accessible from the college main homepage by clicking on ‘Virtual College’ under the ‘Online Students’ tab.”
Advertising for the virtual college starts in the coming days with postal delivery of 62,000 copies of the latest Community Report to local Shoreline and Lake Forest Park addresses as well as some additional areas. The edition includes a front page virtual college story and a full page ad on the back.
Online advertising will begin sometime next week, Hills said, with geographically and behaviorally targeted campaigns expected to reach more than 750,000 people between the launch date and Sept. 30. Also, the Aug. 3 edition of the Puget Sound Business Journal will include an ad for the virtual college.
