VA Benefits Quick Reference Chart

The number of credits and type of classes you are taking can impact the benefits you receive.

Full time vs. part time

The number of credits you take and the quarter you take them in determine your status as a full-time student, which affects your Basic Housing Allowance (BAH) when using the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Credits for Summer Quarter

Full time = 8 credits

3/4 time = 7 credits

1/2 time = 5-6 credits

*less than 5 credits is tuition only

Credits for Fall, Winter, Spring Quarters

Full time = 12 credits

3/4 time = 9-11 credits

1/2 time = 6-8 credits

*less than 6 credits is tuition only

Types of classes

Shoreline offers classes in three ways:

    1. On-campus, referred to as in-residence by the VA.
    2. Online, referred to as distance learning by the VA.
    3. Hybrid, a combination of online and on-campus.

Benefits can be used for all three types of classes. However, for students using the Post-9/11 GI Bill and enrolled solely in online classes, the effective BAH rate is 1/2 the national average BAH rate. Students enrolled in combinations of online, on-campus and hybrid (part online, part on-campus) classes may contact Shoreline Veterans Program staff members Dani Dutro or Chad Springer for more information about benefits.
