Karen Ehnat - Acting Director of Special Services

Karen Ehnat is new to Shoreline Community College and is the Acting Director of Special Services. Karen earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Washington. Prior to Shoreline Community College, she worked for 22 years at a private college in a number of roles, including Director of Disability Services, Veteran Support and Counselor. As the Director of OSS, Karen oversees strategic direction and daily operations for OSS including Veterans Programs, the Services for Students with Disabilities Program, Assessment and Testing Department and the Community Integration and Employment Program. Karen is a Seattle native and the daughter of a World War II Marine.  

 

Missy Anderson - Veterans Coordinator

Missy Anderson comes to us from Seattle University’s Institute of Public Service where she served as the Administrative Assistant for three graduate and two undergraduate programs. Prior to moving to Seattle in 2010, Missy worked for Sacramento City College for nearly a decade, first as the Veterans Certifying Official and then as the Student Personnel Assistant in Athletics. Eager to work with veterans again, Missy accepted the position of Program Coordinator – Veterans Affairs at Shoreline Community College in January, 2014. Her goals are to provide a safe, welcoming environment for veterans and their families, and expand the existing support services that ensure student success in and out of the classroom. Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Missy enjoys spending time with family and friends, trips to the ocean, playing golf, working in her yard and volunteering with the Seattle Women’s Chorus.

 

Rosemary Whiteside - Veterans Advisor

Rosemary serves as the Academic Advisor for the Shoreline Veterans Program. Rosemary has a bachelor’s degree in Business and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Her varied work experiences include a stint as an assistant buyer for a department store, working as a therapist in a community mental health clinic, academic advising, and for a period of time, being a full-time mom. She is married to a U.S. Navy veteran and has two daughters.

 

Sarah Pearce - Office of Special Services Program Assistant

Sarah has held many hourly positions in a variety of departments on campus. These include the Shoreline Community College Bookstore, the Dean of Students Office, and Veterans Programs. In October she was hired full time as the Program Assistant in the Office of Special Services. Prior to working at Shoreline Community College, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for a retirement planning company. She has lived in Seattle her whole life and loves to spend time with her dog in the beautiful Northwest. She enjoys working here full time and looks forward to getting to know everyone a bit more.

 

Miguel Escalera - Shoreline Vet Corps Representative

Miguel has been the Shoreline Vet Corps Representative since 2012 and a student at Shoreline Community College since 2010. He was previously a Master Technician at Mercedes Benz of Bellevue and, prior to that, he was on active duty in the Navy from 2000-2006. Miguel currently serves in the U.S. Navy Reserves in Everett, WA and is also a student in the Shoreline Nursing program. 

 

Mike Thom - Veterans Hourly Program Coordinator

Michael serves as a Veterans Program Coordinator for the Shoreline Veterans Programs. Mike is a U.S. Army Veteran who is working toward his bachelor’s degree at the University of Washington in Environmental Studies. He has an Associates of Arts degree from Skagit Valley College where he founded the Veterans Club. Mike is the current Student Veterans Association president at the University of Washington-Bothell. He has worked with veterans in higher education for the last three years and, being a veteran going through school, has firsthand knowledge of VA benefits. Mike has a wife and two sons.
