SCC Names Yassar Khan and Mandy Lam As SCC Tennis Players of the Week:

SCC's #1 seeded Tennis Players, swept the Players of the Week honors for Shoreline Community College this week.

On the men's team, Khan won 1 singles and was leading in another when weather stopped the match. Yassar and doubles partner Alex Casper won both their matches this week.

On the women's side, Mandy Lam, played well against the CC of Spokane on Saturday, dropping a close 6-4, 6-4 match and on Thursday, partnering with Marian Kerow, to drop a 6-2, 6-4 match to Skagit Valley College.

SCC men's team is 2-1 on the season and the women are 0-4. SCC travels to Spokane next week to play Treasure Valley CC and the CC of Spokane

The SCC Tennis Teams had matches this week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as the tennis season heats up in the NWAACC.

On Thursday, the weather played a role as Skagit Valley College came to Shoreview Park for a match against SCC. The SCC men's team was up 2-1 after doubles, as SCC #1 and #3 doubles teams claimed victory before the rain shut the match down. The SCC women's team was down 3-2 before the match was called, as SVC won 2 of the 3 doubles matches and the Dolphins and the Cardinals split two singles matches. The match will be finished the first week of May.

On Friday, the Bellevue College's women's team came to Shoreview Park and came away with a 9-0 victory over of the SCC women's team. The defending NWAACC Champion Bulldogs played well, shutting out the out-manned Dolphins.

And on Saturday, in a highly anticipated battle on the men's side, the Dolphins battled the Community College of Spokane. The undefeated Dolphins were hoping to maintain their perfect record, but it was not to be, as CC of Spokane won 6-3. SCC won at #1 and #5 singles and #1 doubles. Yassar Khan, SCC's #1 players won his match in straight sets and help lead the #1 doubles team along with Alex Casper to a 6-2, 3-6 and 6-0 victory. Josh Cell was the other winner for SCC, as he won 6-3, 6-2 at the #5 position.

The SCC women's team dropped a 9-0 match to Spokane, as they had to forfeit three matches out of the gate, as they only had four players suited up. Mandy Lam did play well for the team, dropping her #1 singles match 6-4, 6-4

The SCC men's team is now 2-1 on the season and the Women's Team falls to 0-4. Both teams travel to Spokane, WA next weekend to take on Treasure Valley CC and the CC of Spokane in dual matches.

Mandy Lam and Alex Casper Named SCC Tennis Players of the Week:

Sophomore Mandy Lam and Freshman Alex Casper were named Women's and Men's Tennis Players of the Week for Shoreline Community College Athletics.

Lam, the #1 player on the women's team, dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match to Anna Fina of Skagit Valley on Friday in the SCC 2-7 defeat to the Cardinals. Mandy was the only SCC Women's Player to win at least 3 sets from a Skagit Valley player in both sets of play.

Alex Casper defeated Zach Armenta of SVC 6-1, 6-2 in dominate form to help lead SCC to a 6-3 win over the Cardinals. Casper also teamed with SCC #1 player, Yassar Khan to defeat the #1 doubles team from SVC 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) in a classic match.

The SCC Women's Team is 0-2 on the young season while the SCC Men's Team is 2-0 and off to it's best start in years.

SCC plays Skagit Valley again on Thursday at home (Shoreview Park) at 1:00 PM.

SCC Men's Tennis Defeats Skagit Valley 6-3:

The SCC Men's Tennis Team went 2-0 in the season, as they defeated Skagit Valley College on Friday in Mt. Vernon, WA. SCC took 2 of the 3 doubles to get an early lead in the match and did not look back in the singles as they went 4-2 there for the 6-3 win.

But it was not easy, as SCC's #1 doubles team of Yassar Khan and Alex Casper went 3 sets with SVC, wining the third set in a tiebreaker 7-5, to win the final set 7-6. SCC dropped #2 doubles, but won at #3 doubles easily, as Josh Cell and Daniel Kalip won 6-1, 6-3. 

In singles, SCC won at #1 (Yassar Khan), #2 (Alex Casper), #4 (Will Leach) and #6 (Nicholas Feller). Will Leach had the toughest match, dropping the first set 6-7 on a tiebreaker (7-3), but coming back to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-2. It was the only singles match to go 3 sets.

SCC will now play on Thursday, against the same Skagit Valley team at home, starting at 1:00 PM.

SCC Women's Tennis Drops Match to Skagit Valley College 2-7:

The Lady Dolphins had a full-team for the first time this season, but could not pull out a win on Friday against Skagit Valley College as the Cardinals beat SCC 7-2.

SCC opened the season last week against Treasure Valley CC with only 3 players.

Skagit dominated the match, winning their 7 matches in straight sets. SCC got two wins on defaults by SVC.

SCC's #1 player, Mandy Lam battled hard but lost 6-3, 6-3. 

SCC will play the same Skagit Valley team on Thursday at Shoreview Park at 1:00 PM.

Yassar Khan and Rahwa Yehdego Named SCC Tennis Players of the Week:

Shoreline Community College named Yassar Khan the Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as the #1 SCC Player came back from a 5-7 defeat in the first set against Treasure Valley's Brad Perkins to win the next two sets, 6-0, 6-0 and won at #1 Doubles with Alex Casper to led SCC to a 7-2 victory over Treasure Valley Community College on Friday.

Rahwa Yehdego, dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match to Treasure Valley in the 0-9 defeat on Friday, but won more games than the rest of the SCC team combined, as SCC was forced to play with only 3 players on Friday due to lack of players ready to play. Yehdego was playing in her first college match.

SCC plays Skagit Valley College on Friday in Mt. Vernon, WA.

The SCC Men's Tennis Team won 7-2 in their opening match of the season against Treasure Valley Community College on Friday at the Shoreview Park courts.

The SCC Women's team, playing with only 3 players, dropped a 0-9 match.

The SCC Women's Match schedule for today (Saturday, April 7) has been rescheduled for April 15th.

SCC Tennis plays at Skagit Valley College next Friday (April 13th) at 2:00 PM.
