HIM Technician (full time position consisting of part time coder (4 hours); part time chart assembler (4 hours)


Primary Responsibilities: Code discharge charts the day after discharge and finalize the abstracts to allow the   

bill to drop. A minimum of 15 coded charts per four hour session. Follow up work with doctors or nurse   

practitioners for completion of discharge orders or for completion of queries. Assemble patient charts and audit and flag for deficiencies at a minimum of 9-10 charts per four hour session. Correctly route newly assembled patient charts to physicians for signature or dictation.


QUALIFICATIONS:Education: At least high school graduate or equivalent required, with completion of a certified health information program (AA degree) preferred. Certification as a RHIT, RHIA or CCS or exam-ready within six months of hire preferred. Experience: At least one year experience in a medical office/behavioral health care setting preferred; knowledge of medical terminology preferred; at least one (1) year experience with computer systems, especially Microsoft Word and Excel preferred. Additional Requirements: Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm minimum preferred. Good organizational skills; ability to work proactively with medical director and medical staff; may be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours. Provides assistance to physicians, clinical staff, and patients for the creation, completion, and maintenance of the ambulatory medical record. Includes the coordination of: filing loose reports, filing paper charts, and outpatient chart preparation as well as tracking required elements and completion of the electronic chart.  Releases patient records as required.


Required: High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum of one year experience in a healthcare environment. Knowledge of health information systems, medical terminology, computer software and database fundamentals. Associate Degree in Health Information Sciences.


Preferred: RHIT Certification. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment based upon departmental policies and procedures
