Bob Hutchinson was part of the pioneer generation of animators in Seattle who, confronted with limited resources, established a vital presence by creating their own centers of animation and film where experimentation was the norm.
Upon graduating with a BFA in graphic design from Ohio State University, Bob migrated to Seattle, where he obtained his MFA in painting from the University of Washignton. He found his calling when he took an animation class from Ron Carraher at the U. Bob eventually developed a technique of chalk board animation that led to an Emmy for the short, “Chalk Trio” in 1979. He started 2nd Saturday Cinema which ran a series of vintage and experimental live action and animated films out of a shared studio for 10 years. For the past 15 years Bob has taught classes in graphic design, multimedia and animation.
