SCC Women's Basketball Defeats South Puget Sound CC

In a battle of teams playing with only six players, the Lady Dolphins defeated South Puget Sound Community College 67-59 on Friday night in Olympia. SCC should regain several players from injuries and eligiblity issues next week.


SCCSCC was led by Gnanamani Hooyman with 20 points followed by Jenny Voss who scored 19. Michan Lueke had a solid game as well, with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 8 steals.


SCC led by 2 at half, 31-29.


SCC is now 6-3 on the season and opens NWAACC Northern Region play on Wednesday at Skagit Valley College. SVC is 5-5 in the pre-region season. The Lady Dolphins are off to their best start in five years.

Voss Named SCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Jenny Voss Named SCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week:

Jenny Voss, a sophomore guard from Aberdeen, WA, has been named SCCvoss.jpg Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts at the NWAACC Crossover Tournament at Wenatchee Valley Community College this past weekend.

Voss scored 20 points and hit the winning free-throws against Highline Community College on the second day of the tournament in SCC's 65-63 win over the Highlanders.

Voss averaged 12 points a game for the three day tournament and with 4 rebounds per game, 3 steals and 2.7 assists. SCC went 1-2 in the tournament, with losses to Columbia Basin and Centralia CC along with the HCC win.

SCC plays at South Puget Sound CC on Friday, December 30th, at 6:00 PM and then opens NWAACC Northern Region play on January 4th at Skagit Valley College.
SCC Women's Basketball Goes 1-2 At NWAACC Crossover

The Lady Dolphins opened the NWAACC Crossover at Wenatchee Valley Community College in a bad way, meeting a tough Columbia Basin College team in the first round and being bounced by the Lady Hawks, 78-35. SCC struggled on offense, only scoring 15 points at half and shooting only 24% for the game.

 

Jenny Voss was the only SCC player in  double figures, scoring 11voss.jpg points and leading the team in rebounds with  8. 

 

On the second day of the tournament, SCC played Highline Community College and came away with a tough 65-63 victory as Voss hit two free-throws with 26 seconds left in the game and the SCC defense held off HCC in their last attempt to score to pull out the victory.

 

Voss lead the team with 20 points and 5 steals. Jenny scored 7 of her 20 points from the free-throw line. Gnanamani Hooyman scored 13, Caitlin Roussopulus added 11 and Tess Cathey 10 for the Lady Dolphins in a balanced scoring attack.

 

SCC faced Centralia College on Sunday and the Lady Dolphins fell 78-44 as the lack of depth (SCC played with only 7 players this weekend) took its toll and the SCC squad fell behind and never could rally on exhausted legs. SCC only shot 28% from the field and was out rebounded 51 to 29.

 

Gnanamani Hooyman led SCC with 17 points against Centralia, the only  SCC player in double figures and she had 7 rebounds. 

 

SCC is now 5-3 on the season, the best start for the Dolphins in over five years.  SCC now will take a Christmas break and return to action at South Puget Sound CC in Olympic, WA on January 30th at 6:00 PM and then opens NWAACC Northern Region play on Wednesday, January 4th at Skagit Valley College. SCC returns home on January 7th to face Olympic College in the SCC Gym.

Gnanamani Hooyman - SCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week:

D30_0211_sc.jpgGnanamani Hooyman, a sophomore forward from Seattle Academy, helped led the Lady Dolphins to two wins in the past week. Hooyman scored 21 points with 4 rebounds against Northwest Indian College and then had 12 points and 8 rebounds against Grays Harbor CC on Saturday.

SCC defeated NWIC 69-55 and then defeated GHCC 65-56 and ran their record to 4-1 on the season.

SCC plays tomorrow at Noon at Wenatchee Valley CC against Columbia Basin College in the NWAACC Crossover Tournament there. CBC is 6-0 on the season and ranked 4th in the NWAACC

SCC Women's Basketball Defeats Grays Harbor 65-56
The Lady Dolphin Basketball Team went 4-1 on the season with a 65-56 victory Saturday afternoon at Grays Harbor Community College. SCC is off to its best start in over five years.

Gnanamani Hooyman led a balanced SCC attack with 12 points and 8 reboundsD30_0424_sc.jpg while Jenny Voss scored 11 points and Maria Ciraco added 10. Kaleigh Phillips grabbed 9 rebounds for the Dolphins and Voss had 7 steals.

Shoreline went out to a 35-29 lead at halftime and outscored GHCC 23-9 from the bench as the superior SCC depth made a big difference in the game. Grays Harbor falls to 3-4.

DSC_0570_sc.jpgSCC next plays in the NWAACC Crossover Tournament at Wenatchee Valley Community College on December 16th. SCC will face Columbia Basin College in the first round of the 8 team tournament. CBC is currently 6-0 on the year and ranked 4th in the NWAACC.
SCC Women's Basketball Defeats Northwest Indian College 69-55
The Lady Dolphin Basketball Team broke open a close game at the end of the first half, going on a 11-0 run to end the half to turn a 18-16 deficient into a 27-18 halftime lead. The Dolphins also came out hot to open the second and ran out to a 31 point lead at 55-31.

D30_9421_sc.jpgSCC was led by Gnanamani Hooyman with 21 points and Michan Luecke & Kaleigh Phillips who both scored 14 points each. The Dolphins out rebounded the Eagles 70 to 51 and outscored NWIC 40 to 9 from the bench.

SCC is now 3-1 on the season and travels to play Grays Harbor Community College on Saturday at 2:00 PM. GHCC is 3-3 on the year
Kaleigh Phillips Named SCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
For the second consecutive week, Kaleigh Phillips has been named the SCCCopy (2) of D30_9217_sc.jpg Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The freshman from Summit High School in Valencia, CA scored 18 points and had 9 rebounds in SCC's 69-39 victory over South Puget Sound CC on Saturday at the SCC Gym.

Phillips is averaging 14.3 points per game in the first three games of the season and 6.7 rebounds per game.

SCC plays on Thursday at home against Northwest Indian College at 7:00 PM in the SCC Gym and then travel to Grays Harbor, WA on Saturday to face Grays Harbor Community College. SCC is 2-1 on the young season.
SCC Women's Basketball Routs South Puget Sound
The Lady Dolphin Basketball Team beat South Puget Sound Community College on Saturday afternoon in the SCC gym 69-39 as SCC broke open a close game in the second half to cruise to a 30 point win.

SCC led 25-22 at half, but used a full court press in the second half to force an uptess.jpg tempo pace that wore down the Lady Clippers who only dressed seven players for the game. SCC outscored SPS 44 to 17 in the second half.

Kalleigh Phillips lead SCC with 18 points and 9 rebounds while Tess Cathey scored 14 including 4 from 8 from three point range and Gnanamani Hooyman added 10 points. SCC out rebounded SPSCC 56 to 42 and outscored the Clippers 21 to 3 from three point range.
