Program Description

The 90 credit Associate in Arts transfer degree is designed to meet the general education requirements at Washington State four-year institutions and prepares students for a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Mathematics Education.

Mathematics Education — What is it?

Mathematics Education provides students with the knowledge, skills and certification to teach Mathematics in the K-12 school system with a focus on grades 8-12. Mathematics is the study of structure, form and the relationship among numerical, geometric and logical constructs. While mathematics is a field that serves science, business and many other fields, it also stands on its own as a discipline worthy of independent study.

Areas of Study in Mathematics Education:

Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry, Discrete Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Calculus, Analytic Geometry and Mathematics Applications to Business, Economics, Engineering and Technology.

Career Opportunities — What can I do with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics Education?
Students who complete a Mathematics Education degree with a teaching certification will be eligible to teach Mathematics in the K-12 public school system. A graduate level degree is required to reach in colleges and universities. In addition, knowledge and skills acquired in Mathematics Education can be applied to a variety of computer programming, data processing, networking, investment, sales and teaching.

Transfer Possibilities — Where can I transfer?

An Associate Degree from Shoreline  makes it possible for students to transfer to public and private colleges and universities throughout the U.S. with junior standing. Shoreline also has agreements with several universities to make transferring even easier. For transfer within Washington State, we offer a special degree called the AA-DTA. For international students, Shoreline also has conditional admission agreements that allow a student to be simultaneously accepted by Shoreline and a university of the student's choosing.
